Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Really friendly service; I think the owner was seating and he spoke to us in a few Italian phrases, which I always take as a good sign. The server, Cassidy, was very friendly and provided perfect service - even during a busy lunch. I had the chicken pastini soup and personal pizza. The pastini was mushy, probably not separated from the broth until serving and thus overcooked, but the flavor was delicious and there were lots of pieces of chicken and veggies. I ate every bit of it. The pizza was excellent, with a great crispy crust and flavorful cheese. I plan on returning for lunch again soon!

So, the last experience I had here was a bit iffy. A group of 15-20 people arrived for a friends birthday party. There were two parties that night that both made a reservation under a common business name. Both parties the same size. Apparently they only booked one. Recipe for disaster. The fun begins! We all piled in one at a time. Over the course of 20-30 minutes, we all were basically there. We ordered drinks and all is well. We asked for separate checks (if that was even possible with a party that big), yet it was! Time to order. I decided on the one of the two specials they offered that night. spinach and chicken ravioles. Since i was one of the first people to order, I was served practically first. Very impressed. Wonder if they were homemade or frozen. Hmm... Either way, fully cooked and delicious. A few people near the end were not so lucky. One person never received their food. Another person received three different versions of their food, all not right. One person never got their appetizer. Big mess. Overall, my experience wasn't too bad, just not everyone's I was with. Just wish it didn't take so long after we were finished eating to get our check.

Terrible service The first time I went to this place. I found a cricket in my drink. I asked 2 different servers and both did not even take my drink. I had to wait for the owner to come by and ask him. "Oh that's no good", he says. Fine, stuff happens right? I went back, because the food is admittedly decent, when ordering traditional Italian food. (Although, Do NOT order a burger or steak). They get my order wrong, no exaggeration, 1/3 of the time. The last straw was tonight, they got my order wrong, but I didn't notice until I got home this time. I called and asked for a refund because it's a long drive back just to get the correct order, and the owner yelled and screamed while refusing "I don't give refund, I only give you more wraps!" By the way, the order was 2 chicken Caesar wraps (which are delicious from this restaurant). But I got one wrap and a random chicken sandwich on untoasted white bread? I'll post the picture. I was an overwhelmingly understanding and forgiving loyal customer. But never again. If anyone wants 2 free chicken wraps, feel free to claim mine. I won't be going back.

Went here for a Saturday Buffett style luncheon. First course was salad with ranch or Italian dressing. The salad was already plated and ready to go and had some nice Italian peppers on it. Next they brought out some cheeseybread squares that had sauce on them. These were a surprisingly good original concoction. Next came the pepperoni and ham Stromboli/calzone slices for the table. These were excellent as well. On the Buffett they had a little bit of everything: penne (marinara and alla vodka), lemon chicken, sausage and pepper, meatballs, spring veggie mixture, potatoes and more. The garlic knots were great if you are a big fan of butter and olive oil. Illustrious and impressive spread for the group. Classic Italian American style meaning home made red sauce everywhere, (sweeter than most), hearty portions and tons of cheese.

Had the chicken saltimboca. It was extremely odd, usually prosciutto is cut very thin and as a result you can't detect the salt. This was more like a piece of ham, it was way to thick and didn't even taste like prosciutto. Further, it was overcooked and the edges were hard as a rock. The sauce had potential but was more like a salt lick. The pasta, chicken and mushrooms were cooked very well. Better off making this one at home.

Stopped here to eat. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and we only had to go down the hill from the Holiday Inn and up highway 315 to get there. The food , service, and price were all very good. When we stop again and stay ,we will definitely eat here again. The waitress we had was very thorough and very efficient. We would highly recommend that anyone who enjoys Italian food stop and give this place a chance. I don't think you will be disappointed!

The complimentary garlic knots were great, the house salad was ok and the chicken fettuccine Alfredo was absolutely fabulous! My wife and I enjoyed a great meal for under $40.

Good service, reasonable prices, large portions served quickly. Plenty enough to bring home for another meal. Casual dated atmosphere, could use a scrubbing and a coat of paint. Harsh light bulbs above the booth definitely not an intimate setting. We'll be back! Anxious to try their desserts they rave about.

Good place for a quick bite, our waitress was delightful, but would not return. The lasgna sauce was too sweet and my tuna melt was ok, the croissant was stale. Food wasnt great.

They catered a work lunch with only receiving the order the evening before. I think we ordered 40+ pies. Don't know how they did it. Everything was good.

Good portions, nice selections, but the dinner salad was a bit lacking... iceberg lettuce. I should have gotten the soup. I have been here before, and the soup is very good. I ordered Spaghetti and Meatballs, the sauce was on the sweet side and that is fine with me. The meatballs were a little on the processed side, but still OK with me. I am not too hard to please. We opted for this place as opposed to Olive Garden, because I feel it a bit sinful to bypass a local joint over a chain. The decor, as others have posted is a bit dated, but it is still a nice place and worth a try if you desire some Italian fare. Prices are decent too.

Came here for lunch with colleagues. I ordered the spinach salad. It was good but nothing special. Prices reasonable.

Went to the WB location with a group of co-workers and sat on the deck, which is nice. The service was slow and the food was bland. We were there during shift change and the server came to the head of our table, clapped her hands to get our attention, and informed us that she was leaving and since "severs always get screwed at shift change" she wanted to be tipped before she left. Unbelievable. My husband and I also gave the Dallas location a shot. The server there was not intentionally rude, but was clearly not interested in waiting tables that day. My pizza was burned, and my husband's Alfredo had no flavor. We won't be going back.

Leggio's was our "safe" non-chain local dinner choice for a party of 5. We were a group of out-of-towners on a business trip working through dinner. Thankfully, a another dining area next to the full-service bar provided us with space and privacy. Decor felt old, dated, but at least the seats were reasonably comfy. Service was unhurried, yet distracted and timing was predictably off. There were lapses of service during our meal in which plates weren't cleared, drinks weren't refilled, bread not replaced. Food was merely average; I ordered Seafood Fra Diavlo, advertised as spicy, but my pasta dish was hardly anything but mild. However I was glad to see a fair amount of clams, shrimp and mussels in my good-sized portion of pasta, which I was unable to finish. My dinner companions could not fault their dishes (Lori's Special, Chicken Parmigiana); though they were hardly moved to compliment them--except when it came to portion size (i.e. stromboli). We also reckoned desserts as ordinary, especially since we looked forward to reinvigorate our evening with the tiramisu. Unfortunately a chocolate chip cheesecake and a peanut butter concoction satisfied our collective sweet tooth more than the tiramisu. I did pick up on the fact that Leggio's also had an outpost in Dallas, PA (oops not TX as Jake M corrected me after I posted this review) after our waitress mentioned she had shuttled back and forth between the two locations.

The one thing about heading off to exotic locations like Wilkes-Barre is that if you don't want to eat chain food you get to sample some of the local hot spots, good bad or indifferent. Leggio's is in the indifferent category. We came here at the pick of the client. I had a black and blue burger that came on an interesting crispy bun. The burger had lots of blue cheers but the burger itself was fair. One of my companions had the penne, a big plate of fairly ordinary pasta. They did offer individual pan pizzas that piqued my interest ... maybe next time. On a continuous scale I'd give this about a 2.5. It wasn't offensive. If you want Italian in Wilkes-Barre and want to avoid Pizza Hut give this a try.

After a 7hr hike through Rickett's Glenn, some friends and I who were all from out of town decided to stop here on a whim. Honestly, all 5 of us thought the meals were awesome and I don't believe it was just due to lack of food during that hike. Our waitress was extremely helpful and offered a ton of recommendations and was very attentive. The portion sizes were intense, even for a guy that only ate pop-tarts that morning. I finished that giant bowl of chicken fettuccine Alfredo, but not without a heavy hand and a bulging stomach afterwards. Would definitely come back here if I happen to be in the area.

Great Italian meals, large portions and reasonably priced. Pizza, subs & sandwiches are also really good. Staff is very friendly & service is good.

We saw this on yelp as we were passing through, making an overnight stay in town and needing to order carry-out to bring into our hotel room. This menu is very traditional as is the food prep, and while none of the quality seemed particularly high end, it was tasty enough and the veggies in the salads were quite fresh. What they did was totally load you up on portions. A side of fries filled an entire entree-sized to go box. The chicken parm was like three sizable pieces of chicken, not just one. We could have fed any army with our order -- we were sad to throw the leftovers away, but they weren't coming with us on the road the next day. We came through late on a Sunday evening, and the restaurant was pretty empty. If you want to see an Italian spot decorated in '80s style and not updated since then, this is your spot. Struck me as a place that has probably been a middle class neighborhood/family standby for a long, long time.

Old decor, cheesy tile top bar, I'm hungry as can be and although I got a beer and menu, nobody asking me for food order... Boy, could I use some bread... Salad and garlic knots! Woo-hoo!! And not bad. Food just ok; Chicken Tuscany Unfriendly staff, they all seem a bit miserable. Not many more places around so I guess that's why it's busy.

Both Leggio's locations offer delicious food at a reasonable price. The portions are generous. I'm a fan of the Chicken Parm. I chose the corn chowder as my soup and it was awesome, you can tell it was homemade. The man in the front who seated us was very pleasant and welcoming. DJ was our server and made the experience terrific

I feel like there are many other options that are better than Leggio's, but if you are trying to stay close to Wilkes-Barre, this is probably one of the better choices. Nothing here will blow you away and make you want to come back everyday for more, but you'll get nice portions of decent Italian food.

I came here one day before a penguins game because all the other spots by the arena were jam packed. Well when I first walked in I thought I was sent back to the 70s with the decor of the place. We sat at our table and ordered our food. I got the chicken parm with a side of pasta and when it came out. I had a portion the size of my head. It was enough to feed me for 3 days and I'm not kidding. The food was good and service was fine as well. I will def visit this place again when I'm in the area.

YUM! Great alternative to Olive Garden or Pizza hut. Try the soup.. it's delish!

Food was run of the mill Italian. Nothing distincitve. 3 in our group ordered angel hair pasta. Got spaghetti. They had run out of angel hair.... Seriously Drink prices fair. But.. A lady in our group ordered Blue Moon on tap with an orange slice. Answer was, well we get about one orange in a week. Place was very busy on a Saturday night but I'm not sure why.

Not bad. Probably average for NEPA. I'd eat here again if it was convenient.

I've spent many a happy hour (no pun intended) on the deck of Leggio's enjoying the drinks and food. Although the name implies pizzeria, the menu is not limited to just pizza and breadsteaks. There are also soups, sandwiches, salads, and a plethora of Italian pasta dishes and dinners. Could not believe how good the corn chowder soup was (and yes I know I was eating soup in Summer, but I could eat soup every day of the year). The pizza is very good, too and one of the places in the Valley where the plain is good enough that you don't need any toppings. The owner Sal always makes everyone feel welcome. One of the best bars in the area as well, especially if you want a well-made drink without pretension or getting all dressed up. Prices are reasonable. The only downside is that since the smoking ban the deck has become the haven of smokers and if you can't tolerate it like me, you might have a hard time being out on the famous deck.

Finding a non-chain restaurant later on a Sunday night up here can be challenging. My husband, a local, said leggios and I didn't realize what a treat we were in for. The complementary garlic knots were delicious, and my pasta and my husband's salad were both really good. My pasta was just with garlic and olive oil - a dish that can tank if the components aren't individually good. I was quite pleased with mine. The best part? I accidentally ordered an appetizer with meat (no descriptions on the menu and Pepsi products are my only complaints). When I explained to the waitress my error, she took the appetizer back and off the check. We will definitely be back.
